ADA - By virtue of strong play throughout much of the spring and a strong finish at the recent Lone Star Conference Golf Championships, the East Central University men's team has qualified for the NCAA Division II South Central Regional, set for May 2-4, at the Territory Golf Club in Duncan.

The Tigers, who took fifth place at the LSC Championships on Tuesday, reached a No. 10 regional ranking this week. ECU, rated 14th in the region last week, finished ahead of Northeastern State, Southwestern Oklahoma State and West Texas A&M at the LSC. All three of those teams were ranked higher than the Tigers in last week's regional poll.

ECU, behind the play of sophomore Bryeson Lance, posted a 6-over-par team score of 870 for the three-day, three-round conference event at the par-72 WinStar Course in Thackerville.

Lance fired a 6-under-par 210 for the three rounds, including a 4-under 68 in the second round and a 5-under 67 in the third to finish in a tie for fifth place and fuel the Tigers, who were in seventh after one round and sixth after two.

Teammate and senior Zac Pool, an All-LSC Second Team selection, finished at 3-over for the tournament, including a 2-under 70 in the second round, for 17th place overall.

Other members of the team include sophomore Jeff Weisheit, who tied 22nd at the LSC Tournament; freshman Travis Keeley, who tied for 30th; and senior Michael Vassella, who finished 43rd.

As a team, the Tigers have made strong showings at several tournaments this spring, including winning the championship of the Crawford-Wade Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce, at Pottsboro, Texas as well as taking fourth at the Henderson State Tournament in Hot Springs, Ark., and finishing fifth at the Midwestern State Tourney in Wichita Falls, Texas.
