            POTTSBORO, Texas - Freshman Ashley Cardwell tied two others for 17th place as East Central finished eighth out of 16 teams at the Lion Invitational Golf Tournament, hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce, on Tuesday at the par-72 Tanglewood Resort Course.

            Cardwell shot a 12-over-par 84 in Tuesday's second and final round after posting an 83 in Monday's first round. Another ECU freshman, Carol Blanton, tied five others for 26th place after shooting an 84 Monday and finishing up with an 86 on Tuesday.

            Also for the Lady Tigers, junior Whitney McDaniel tied two others for 35th place after carding an 85 on Monday and finishing with an 87 on Tuesday. Teammate Megan Dutton tied seven participants for 39th place (85-88) and Emily Wharton tied two others for 75th (98-90).

            Angelo State captured the team title with a 631, followed by Incarnate Word (648), Midwestern State (653), Cameron (661), Newman (668), St. Mary's (675), Texas A&M-Commerce (680) and ECU (682).

            Tyler Junior College finished ninth at 683, followed by Arkansas-Fort Smith (687), Harding (705), Texarkana Junior College (708), Arkansas Tech (709), Henderson State (713), Fort Hays State (726) and Lincoln (775).

            Incarnate Word's Joanna De Sa Peirera earned medalist honors after finishing 6-over for the entire tournament. She fired a 1-over 73 on Tuesday after shooting a 77 in Monday's opening round. She edged out second-place Kylee Johnson, of Cameron, by two strokes as Johnson fired back-to-back scores of 76.
