ADA - East Central saw Tarleton State pound out 29 hits on the day as the Texans rolled to a 9-3, 23-17 doubleheader sweep of the Tigers Friday in Lone Star Conference baseball play at Tiger Field. Tarleton limited ECU to four hits while collecting 11 of its own in the opener. Then in the second game, the Texans scored 10 third-inning runs and held on after ECU scored eight times in the seventh. The Tigers dropped to 3-11 on the season and 3-9 in the LSC while the Texans improved to 9-13 and 6-12. The two teams are scheduled to battle again Saturday in another noon doubleheader at Tiger Field in Ada. Tarleton State 9, ECU 3 (Game 1) Texan right-hander Ryan Salt (2-2) allowed just two earned runs off four hits while walking two and striking out two in going the seven-inning distance in the opener. The only damage ECU did on Salt came in the third as Dackry Howard belted a three-run homer to right-center, pulling the hosts within 6-3. It was the first home run by a Tiger this season. The table was set for Howard when Mat Wolf led off with a walk and Luis Argumedes reached on an error. One out later, Howard went deep off the first pitch. Howard finished the game 2-for-3 from the plate as he also singled in the first. Junnior Dishmey-Perez and Nathan Hille collected two hits and drove in a pair of runs each for the Texans, who scored at least one run in every inning but the fifth. ECU's Will Grimes (0-3) took the loss after working all seven innings and allowing eight earned runs off 11 hits and three walks. Tarleton State 23, ECU 17 (Game 2) The scheduled nine-inning contest saw the Texans seemingly put the run-rule into effect with a five-run seventh inning to make it 20-9. But the Tigers countered with an eight-run bottom of the seventh to make it more interesting at 20-17. Tarleton padded its lead with three scores in the ninth. Dylon Howard had three of ECU's 13 total hits as he knocked in four runs with a pair of two-run singles, one in the sixth inning and the other in the seventh as he finished 3-for-5 with a sacrifice bunt. Mac Grace and Tyle Hankins also collected multiple hits for the Tigers as Grace was 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored three times while Hankins was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a pair of runs scored. Six Texans had multiple hits with the leadoff man Dishmey-Perez leading the way at 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Tarleton starter Kenneth Stockton pitched 5.2 innings for the win as only four of the nine runs that ECU scored were earned. Tiger starter Jacob Gammons was charged with the loss after lasting just 2.2 innings. ECU used four relievers in the game. |
