ABILENE, Texas - East Central University's Andres Nunez reached the quarterfinals of the ITA South Central Men's Regional Tennis Tournament Saturday, before falling. Nunez won three straight matches in the event before fifth-seed and eventual champion Ryan Ward, of Washburn University, defeated him, 6-4, 6-4. Nunez opened play on Friday with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Northwest Missouri State's Giovanni Auricchio, 6-2, 6-3. Nunez then knocked off Abilene Christian's Luke Hawk in the second round, 6-2, 6-3, before he claimed a three-set decision over Marcin Marcsewsk, of St. Mary's University, 4-6, 6-4, 10-1. ECU's Sam Moore won his first-round match over Southwest Baptist's Jorce Palacios. But Cameron's Jorge Gerosi outlasted Moore in a three-set, second-round match. Two other ECU players - Dai Edwardes-Evans and Stefan Stein - lost their first-round matches. Southeastern Oklahoma State's Alejandro Jose beat Edwardes-Evans, while Max Moreau, of Incarnate Word, downed Stein, 6-2, 6-4. In doubles play, all three ECU teams lost in the first round. ACU's Eldad Campbell and Brett Proctor beat Nunez and Stein, 6-2, 6-1. Vijit Sehgal and Ryan Westerhof, of Northwest Missouri, topped Edwardes-Evans and Moore. Cameron's Thomas Peixoto and Diego Trejano upended Colin Helton and Mitch Sholty.
