CANYON, Texas – East Central University setter Holly Hicks was named Lone Star Conference Volleyball Newcomer of the Year, it was announced Wednesday night in conjunction with the LSC Postseason Tournament. Hicks, a junior from Round Rock, Texas, was a team captain for ECU’s first year of volleyball competition. Her efforts also landed her on the 14-member LSC First Team for 2008. Hicks, who transferred to ECU from Texas Tech, finished the 2008 season, averaging 6.3 assists and 2.1 kills per set. She also ended up with a .270 hitting percentage (10th best in the LSC) with 1.9 digs, 0.5 blocks and 0.2 service aces per set. She was also named to the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll for her academic achievements, it was also announced on Wednesday. The Lady Tigers, of head coach Dave Thorn, finished with a 12-22 record in their initial season. |
