ADA - After sweeping Southeastern Oklahoma State on its home field earlier this week, East Central saw the tables turned on it Saturday as the Savage Storm rolled to a 3-2, 11-2 Lone Star Conference North softball doubleheader sweep of the host Lady Tigers on Saturday. SOSU, behind a two-run homer and solo-shot from Ryan Allen, took the first game, before the Savage Storm compiled 14 hits to also take the nightcap. ECU dropped to 14-6 overall and 2-2 in the LSC North with the losses while SOSU improved to 12-11 and 2-2. The Lady Tigers swept the Savage Storm in Durant on Tuesday. Southeastern Oklahoma 3, ECU 2 (Game 1) The Savage Storm jumped out to a 2-0 lead right off the bat as Jeana Keyes doubled and Allen followed with her two-run blast off losing pitcher Wanda Malone (5-2). Allen later hit a one-out, solo homer to make it 3-1 in the seventh. Malone surrendered five hits and no walks while striking out two. Meanwhile, SOSU hurler Amanda Tanner (6-5) also allowed five hits, but only one of the ECU runs was earned as she walked one and struck out three. The Lady Tigers pulled to within 2-1 in the second inning when Emily Kennemer led off with a single and advanced to second on Hillary Hughes' sacrifice bunt. Tori Parrish then doubled home Kennemer. ECU then scratched through with an unearned run in the sixth as Desiree' Nordie reached on an error and ran all the way to third after a couple more miscues on the same play. Kasey Barber's sacrifice fly cut the deficit to 3-2, but it was too little, too late. Stefanie Watson had two of the five Lady Tiger hits. Allen was 2-for-3 with her two homers and all three RBIs for the Savage Storm. Southeastern Oklahoma 11, ECU 2 (Game 2) The Savage Storm jumped on Lady Tiger starter Ellen Estabrooks for six first-inning runs, before adding two more in the third and three in the sixth to ultimately end the contest on the run rule. The Lady Tigers were limited to seven hits by SOSU's Ashley Smith, who pitched all six innings and allowed the two earned runs with two walks and four strikeouts. Nicole Sanchez went 3-for-4 from the plate for ECU. Shelby Simmons' RBI double got the Lady Tigers on the board in the fourth inning and Desiree' Nordie had a run-scoring double in the sixth for ECU's only other run. Keyes went 5-for-5 and drove in four runs and scored two times for the Savage Storm while three other SOSU players collected two hits apiece. ECU will try to quickly bounce back with a home LSC North doubleheader on Sunday against Northeastern State at 2 p.m. The Lady Tigers will then go to Tahlequah on Tuesday to face NSU again in a 2 p.m. twinbill on Tuesday. |
