BETHANY - East Central University knocked down 15 three-pointers as the junior guard tandem of Casi Rawls and Krista Bullis led the way for the Lady Tigers in a 94-69 non-conference victory over host Southwestern Christian Monday night. Rawls poured in 20 points as she canned 6-of-9 long-range attempts, while Bullis was 5-of-10 from 3-point land as the Lady Tigers improved to 8-3 on the season after a near three-week holiday break. Joining Rawls and Bullis in double figures were freshman guards Jourdan Clark and Regan Browne with 12 and 11 points respectively and senior forward Angela Kalanoska with 10, including a pair of treys. ECU shot 46.4 percent from the floor and was 41.7 percent from beyond the arch while converting 15-of-20 free throws (75 percent) and limiting the Lady Eagles to 33.8 percent overall shooting and only three 3-pointers. The Lady Tigers fell into an early 10-4 hole and pulled even at 14. After a 20-all deadlock, ECU outscored the hosts 27-10 in the final 11:39 of the opening half. That surge was ignited by a 14-2 run which featured five 3-pointers. Bullis and Rawls connected on back-to-back treys. Danielle Cox hit an inside bucket to make it 28-22. Then after an SCU bucket, Bullis and Rawls again spotted up for consecutive 3-pointers for a 34-22 ECU advantage. The Lady Eagles did slice the 47-30 halftime deficit down to 11 points to start the second half, but the Lady Tigers responded with a 15-4 run as Rawls sank two treys while Harris had a fast-break bucket and a 3-pointer of her own as the ECU advantage swelled to 62-40. SCU did manage to pull within 14 twice, but got no closer. Rawls not only paced the Lady Tigers in scoring but dished out six assists as did Clark. Three more ECU players were on the brink of breaking into double figures as junior Laura Harris ended up with nine points while Cox and Indhira Ramirez followed with eight apiece. Kelcie Nunley led the Lady Tigers on the boards with nine as ECU won the rebounding war by a 49-42 count. Kaylee Davis paced Southwestern Christian with a game-high 22 points, but was only 8-of-25 from the floor. Sheirra Bruner followed with 20 points and 14 rebounds in a losing cause. The Lady Tigers host Angelo State at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Abilene Christian at 2 p.m. on Saturday in a pair of Lone Star Conference crossover contests before opening LSC North play on Jan. 13 at home against the University of Central Oklahoma at 6 o'clock. |
